TMJ TREATMENT

Tension headaches are often caused due to a malfunctioning or inflamed TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint) in the jaw. TMJ disorders are reversible, and with proper treatment, the condition can be cured permanently.

Our experienced dentists offers a number of conservative treatments for TMJ pain and discomfort.

TMJ problems can be caused due to several reasons like arthritis, injury, teeth clenching due to stress, genetics, missing teeth, and pending orthodontic treatment.

Although symptoms may vary, TMD (Temporomandibular Disorders) triggers dull, intermittent headaches accompanied by pain radiating from the jaw area. During the early stages, you may experience mild discomfort but no pain.

    TMJ TREATMENT

Patients should refrain from biting down on hard foods and avoid teeth clenching that puts pressure on the jaw muscles. Other treatments could include:

Custom-Fitted Splints – Custom-fitted splints prevent your upper and lower teeth from coming into contact with each other.

Physical Therapy – Exercises for the jaw muscles like chin-ups resisted closing, and forward jaw movements help accelerate recovery, especially when combined with other treatment forms. Massage, ice-packs, and heat therapy also help treat the inflammation.

TENS – Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) involves applying a low voltage electric current in the affected area.

Surgery – Surgery is the last option and involves repositioning the joints for proper alignment and pain relief.
